South Sudanese-born Australian basketball player Jongkuch Mach has been attracting attention at the age of 18, with his 2.29m (7ft 1in) height, which is rare even in professional basketball.
Mach, who was born and raised in Perth, Australia, is part of Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence program that develops young talent. In addition to his height, he has been shown to be able to run quickly, defend the basket and block shots with ease despite his size.
In the 2025 season, he was projected to average 14 points, 14 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per 36 minutes played, statistics that showed his great potential.
His talents have also attracted the attention of NBA scouts after participating in the Next Stars program in Italy, with many believing he could be one of the future stars of the game.
